The Luther L. Wright High School Band had the distinct privilege of attending the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra performance at the Overture Center for the Arts this past weekend. Under the musical direction of world-class trumpeter and educator Wynton Marsalis, the program entitled "Middle East Meditations" included compositions featuring virtuoso oud player Naseer Shamma. Referred to as "an unprecedented fusion between Jazz and the Oud instrument", this program was a special performance to witness, and one that students thoroughly enjoyed. A very sincere thank you to everyone who made this trip possible!

On Thursday, 4th grade students used hard boiled eggs to explore the 3 parts of the earth. The shell represented the crust. The students moved the cracks around to see they how work together. The white made up the mantle, the thickest part of the earth. The yoke was the core, which is made up of mostly iron and nickel. They also learned that the core is solid due to the pressure around it.

There will be no school tomorrow in Ironwood due to the extreme cold temperatures forecast. The windchill isn't expected to get above our threshold that allows us to have school until around 10:00, which would not leave us enough time to begin busing and safely get everyone to school. Evening athletic contests are cancelled, but JV and Varsity coaches may elect to hold practice once temps warm up. Coaches will be in contact with their athletes to arrange practice, should they so choose. Stay warm and safe, Everybody, and we'll see you in February!
