It's Dr. Seuss week! A very special guest has been walking around the school reading books to classes. The Cat in the Hat came to read Dr. Seuss's ABC book to Mrs. Boyd's class today!
It was a beautiful day to cross country ski at Wolverine Ski Trails! Jackie and Shanelle from Ottawa National Forest, along with Sue Trull, led the 2nd grade classes on the trails yesterday. They taught the students about the different types of trees they saw along the way. Kathy Bauer and Laurie Celeski from the MSU Extension gave the students a SNAP Education lesson after skiing. They also provided the students with a healthy snack. Thank you to all of the helpers who make this possible each week for our students!

Exciting news about our new School Resource Officer! IAS Alum Officer Clausen from the Ironwood Public Safety Department and Deputy Graser from the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department took part in the TEAM program offered through the Michigan State Police, a program designed to provide comprehensive training for officers who will be supporting schools. The TEAM program trains officers in Teaching, Educating, And Mentoring within schools.
Ironwood Area Schools has a long established partnership with Ironwood Public Safety Department and we look forward to the next chapter in this highly supportive and mutually beneficial story with Officer Clausen.

Psychology students visited Miss Mackey’s kindergarten class last week to test out the theories of Kohlberg, Erickson, and Piaget.
Sixteen students earned $100 or more towards the Kids Heart Challenge. Their reward? Blasting some teachers and the principal with paint!
Check out this physics project from Mr. Lyons' class! Students had to design, construct, and test a vehicle powered by one mousetrap. The goal was to have the car travel 20 feet, stop, and then travel back to the starting line as quickly as possible. Excellent work, students!
Miss Ceci ended the Kids Heart Challenge with some heart-healthy activities on Wednesday. One activity included cycling a blender to make a smoothie! The kids had so much fun!
